An Introduction
Cato Crane and Company, the Auctioneers, was founded in 1985 by John Crane, although the company has its origins in the 19th century Liverpool shipbuilding firm of 'Cato Miller and Co' and 'Edwin Bathurst's Benthall and Broseley Potteries' in Shropshire.

... and the Auctioneer's View ....

A Reputation
Cato Crane and Company has a reputation for providing an efficient nation-wide valuation and auction service to institutions such as banks and building societies, the legal profession and executors of estates together with the regional and national charities, church diocese and the private vendor.

Valuation Service
Cato Crane travels extensively in order to appraise antiques, works of art and decorative objects together with the more usual and useful items found in most homes. Valuations are provided and Cato Crane is able to arrange the sale and dispersal of furnishings by auction or private treaty.

All instructions received from clients are undertaken extremely promptly and with great courtesy and indeed Cato Crane offers a 3-6-5 day 24 hour Antiques-Advice-Line accessed by telephone or via the Internet and e-mail.

International Buyers

Cato Crane Auctioneers is ideally located for international buyers, being close to one of the major container bases in the UK which strengthens the achievement of high auction prices by enabling the international exporters of antiques to bid at auction on many lots in one day, pack and export with ease and with minimal transportation time. The main export countries are the USA and Canada, Japan, Australia and of course the EEC countries.

UK Collectors

Most of the very high quality pieces which are bought at auction are added to existing established collections in the home market.
